Muscat
The first batch of Omani women earned residential plots of land after a draw on Monday at the Ministry of Housing.

Two years ago Omani leader, Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed, issued a Royal Decree, directing the ministry to include women in the draw for government land to be allocated to citizens for residential purposes.

Saeed Bin Rashid Al Habshi, Director-General of the ministry, who presided over the draw, in a statement issued to the local Arabic dailies, said the names were drawn for 100 plots of land in the Muscat area with the majority going to Omani women. He said the government land allotted free to citizens is non-transferable for two years.

Fatima Bint Masoud, who was given land, said she was overwhelmed by the decision.

"The new draw system gives us women an opportunity to own residential land in our own names and place of residence. I am happy to have access to a piece of my own residential land after a long wait," she said.

"Now we can stand side by side with men and build our own houses," said Khadija Bint Abdullah Balushi, who was also allotted a piece of land in Muscat.

We ask you to join us to celebrate the women in our lives, the role models, the icons and the silent heroes that exist in every household.

Highlighting the important roles Omani Women have contributed in society and economy during the last 40 years. The awareness campaign celebrates how greatly favoured women have been under Omani law steered by the great vision of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. The campaign will raise awareness and funds to run grass root programs to develop the confidence of women in their own capacity. The campaign will provide a national platform for Omani women where they can stand strong as an example of success and be the source of inspiration, encouraging others to A.C.E it.
